LED Trackheads Reduce Energy & Increase Illumination
in Successful Supermarket Test
LED and MH heads mounted for the test.AMERLUX and ILA Lighting recently conducted a mock-up comparison in the produce department of a major supermarket in New Jersey. New AMERLUX Contour Vertical 3X4 34 watt LED trackheads were matched against the existing AMERLUX 70W Metal Halide ED17 trackheads which are presently used by the chain.
Drawing only 34 watts of power compared to the 80 input watts of the metal halide heads, the AMERLUX Contour LED heads produced footcandle readings on the produce displays below that were more than double those of the existing metal halide heads. Since the cost difference between a Contour trackhead and a metal halide trackhead w/lamp is only about 15%, the payback period is stunningly short.
The produce on the left of the display island is highlighted with the LED trackheads with narrow flood optics, the produce on the right with the metal halide trackheads. The results of the comparison was so impressive that the supermarket chain has opted to standardize on the new AMERLUX LED trackhead for all new installations and also to retrofit all 24 of their existing stores! Steven Patrick of The Pavese Group, the store designer who requested the comparison test, commented, “With these increased light levels, the great color rendering and the obvious major energy savings, the changeover to these LED trackheads should be a huge benefit to the supermarket chain’s owners.”
