Lohm Wins Award for LEED-CI Retail
Stephen E. Lohm, LC, IES, LEED-AP of ILA Lighting was awarded Con-Tech Lighting's 2009 Retail Lighting Award for the Birdsall Bath Design Showroom in North Plainfield, NJ. The award was presented by John Ranshaw, President, through Con-Tech's annual program recognizing designers, architects, and specifiers based on creativity, originality, and effectiveness. The 5,500 square foot open-plan, high-end bath fixture showroom has been LEED-CI Commercial Interior certified as part of a USGBC Retail Pilot Project.

Patricia Whelan, the showroom's designer and director, required a flexible lighting system capable of providing both dramatic highlighting of the fixtures, broader lighting of panel mounted displays where needed, and maximizing energy savings for the LEED certification. A residential feel with sparkle was achieved with incandescent lamps. The curvable Magellan low voltage rail followed the shape of the displays. By carefully selecting beam spreads for the lamps in the Gyro fixture, the need for additional ambient lighting was eliminated, resulting in a stunningly beautiful and energy efficient showroom.
Con-Tech products featured in the showroom:
- "Gyro" PAR 30 trackheads on ceiling mounted track were chosen to be discreet, yet, provide an intriguing design element.
- "Magellan" flexible rails were suspended at eight feet with accent task lighting and decorative pendants to accentuate the sales desks and to dramatically highlight a complex water feature.
