Incorporated in 1989 by the founder, Don Young, Independent Lighting Associates was not just about sales. The goal was to explore with our Clients,  the OPTIONS and ALTERNATIVES that develop exceptional lighting concepts into reality.

In 1997, Independent Lighting Associates formed the nucleus of a "Design Team", a first to market "Lighting Design to the Professionals".  The concept was that in addition to product knowledge and support of the industry leading manufacturers ILA represents, there was a need amongst Architects, Engineers, and other design professionals for lighting design assistance based on thorough knowledge of the art and science of lighting. Through the rebranding process, ILA invested in building a technically based sales team of industry professionals, entitled the “ILA Design Team”.   This included a Registered Architect, Electrical Engineer, an LC Lighting Designer and a Site Lighting Specialist.  In 2000, a Lighting Controls / Energy Specialist was added to the Design Team to provide greater design assistance to our growing client base.  

In 2007, a forward thinking company,  ILA the design team saw the future of lighting controls and we rebranded ourselves as ILA Lighting & Controls.  ILA's Controls Division, was the industry pioneer as a Sales Representative who began providing complete turn-key lighting control solutions.  Through our highly trained Control Specialists of Electrical Engineers, LEED AP and  LEED Green Associates,  we provide 100% in house code compliant designs in AutoCad with our team of AutoCad designers..  Our team of Electrical Engineers, Network Engineers and Factory Authorized Field Technicians conduct site visits  providing installation guidance as well as 100% of the Start-Up, Programming, and End User Training. There are NO second or third party outsource companies. The ILA Lighting & Controls team are Factory Authorized to Provide the Complete Solution and coordination of today’s LED Lighting Technology and Lighting Controls.
